The Play
Betül wears her headscarf neatly under her chin, at least when she goes out of the house. But the young woman rarely does. At home, she has everything she needs. Here she collects evidence of her newly acquired wealth, often not even unpacked. Betül likes shopping - preferably via TV. The doorbell rings and reality hits her little paradise. Kaya, the uninvited guest, barely older than she is, brings her a letter. It is from Orhan, her husband, who threw himself to his death from a strange apartment on the twelfth floor. Who is Kaya and what does he have to do with Orhan's death?
The Production
Özen Yula, one of the most important contemporary Turkish playwrights, unfolds the conflict sensitively, but without illusion, using the means of comedy. Ülkü Akbaba has translated the successful play from the previous Istanbul theater season to German and staged it. The actress Zeynep Buyraç (Betül), who has long been established on Austrian stages, and Buyraç (Betül) and the up-and-coming Istanbul stage and film star Kenan Ece (Kaya) performed the play in a German and a Turkish version.
